1. The Dirty Chai: A Spicy & Sweet Delight
We're kicking things off with a Dirty Chai. This Australian favorite combines the warmth of chai with a kick of espresso. Using a beautiful La Marzocco Linea PB (but achievable with any home espresso machine), we start by adding Chaime organic Panella sugar chai powder to a glass. Then, a double espresso shot is poured directly over the powder, melting it and releasing its sweet, spicy flavors. Steamed milk is added, creating a creamy, comforting drink.
What Makes it "Dirty"?
In Australia, "dirty" simply means adding coffee to a non-coffee beverage. So, a Dirty Chai is a chai latte with espresso. A Dirty Matcha is a matcha latte with espresso, and a Mocha is essentially a "dirty" hot chocolate.
2. The Vanilla Latte: Sweet Indulgence
For those with a sweet tooth, the Vanilla Latte is a classic choice. A simple squirt of vanilla syrup transforms a regular latte into a decadent treat. This drink is also a great introduction to coffee for those who find the bitterness of espresso a bit overwhelming.
3. The Magic (Melbourne Style): A Local Legend
Originating in Melbourne, the Magic is a unique coffee creation featuring a double ristretto (22.5 grams of liquid from 22.5 grams of coffee) and velvety steamed milk. The key is to not overfill the cup, aiming for a 2/3 fill. This results in a concentrated, flavorful coffee experience.
4. The Classic Mocha: Chocolatey Goodness
The Mocha is a timeless favorite. We use a rich chocolate powder (or a 50/50 mix of powder and liquid for cafe consistency) and combine it with a double espresso shot and steamed milk. A sprinkle of chocolate on top adds a touch of elegance.
Cafe Tip: For cafes, pre-mixing chocolate powder and liquid ensures consistent mochas during busy periods.
5. The Iced Dirty Matcha: A Refreshing Twist
The Iced Dirty Matcha is a visually stunning and refreshing drink that's perfect for warm days. We layer matcha powder (5 grams for a balanced flavor), ice, milk, and a double espresso shot in a tall glass. The separation of layers creates a beautiful presentation.
